The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are facing a major transition this offseason.
For starters, they let former OC Byron Leftwich go after five successful seasons in charge of their offense, and they also need to find out who’s going to start at QB for them.
They already answered the first question by hiring former Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach Dave Canales as their new offensive coordinator.
Now, they need to focus on their QB situation, as Kyle Trask is their only QB under contract as of now.
Trask has played a grand total of 10 snaps throughout his brief NFL career, so saying that he’s a question mark would be a major understatement.
With that in mind, NFL insider Peter King believes the Bucs could be a dark-horse destination for Ryan Tannehill:
“Kyle Trask, we know less than zero about right now,” King said on Pro Football Talk. “So clearly Tampa Bay is going to be in the market for a veteran quarterback, whether that is a quarterback closer to the end than the beginning. Whether that is someone like Ryan Tannehill or whether they decide to get into the Derek Carr stakes.”
This isn’t the first time the Tennessee Titans QB has been tied to the Bucs.
He’s been non-committal to the Titans for the future, and they already have a promising prospect in Malik Willis.
Of course, Tannehill would be a major downgrade from Tom Brady, even after last season’s shortcomings.
But he might as well give them a better shot to compete right now than Trask, especially considering how bleak the NFC South picture looks right now.
Also, it’s not like they have many options to upgrade their QB situation, as they might not be able to afford Derek Carr or Lamar Jackson, while Jimmy Garoppolo, Baker Mayfield, or even Geno Smith might also pursue a bigger bag somewhere else.NEXT: The Buccaneers Appear To Have A QB Plan In Place
