It was announced today that Williamson will not return this season as he continues to rehab from his extensive foot surgery.
While this news isn’t shocking, it’s definitely disappointing, especially since the Pelicans have started to feel themselves more in the last few weeks and are actually in playoff contention.
But the good news is that it seems like Williamson really is returning to the team, despite rumors of him departing.
He just won’t be returning this season.
Will He Or Won’t He?
There have been two questions swirling around Williamson for some time: when will he be healthy again and will he play for the Pelicans?
His recovery from foot surgery has taken much longer than expected.
But there have also been many rumors that the star player isn’t happy in New Orleans.
Some have speculated that Williamson could heal his foot but then decide to join a different team instead of returning to the Big Easy.
Thankfully, recent events have shown that Williamson looks happy with his squad.
He popped up at a home game to root on the Pelicans and was all smiles as he cheered the team on.
This seemed to suggest he isn’t as unhappy as some say.
The ultimate test will come next year when Williamson is able to play again.
New Orleans has shown a lot of promise, especially lately.
That means that Williamson will return to a team that could legitimately become a powerhouse with him back on the floor.
