The St. Louis Cardinals have a great 24-18 record and are just two games out of first place in the NL Central division, mainly because Paul Goldschmidt just hasn’t stopped hitting for more than two weeks now.
The veteran first baseman is 34, but is showing no signs of slowing down.
“Paul Goldschmidt during his 15-game hitting streak for the @Cardinals: 28 hits, 12 doubles, 5 home runs, 22 RBI. Since RBI became an official stat in 1920, no other MLB player has reached all of those numbers over any 15-game span,” Stats by STATS tweeted.

Let’s digest that tweet, part by part.
First of all, a 15-game hitting streak is impressive at all levels, let alone MLB.
Second, he has almost two hits per game and almost one double per game during the streak, which is nothing short of amazing.
And third, while the five homers are definitely impressive, the 22 RBI are even more of an eyebrow raiser.
A Record RBI Pace
No player has driven in 22 runs over a 15-game span: Goldschmidt is the first one to do it.
Baseball is full of surprises, isn’t it?
Goldschmidt is essentially carrying the Cardinals into contention again, after their impressive Wild Card campaign last year.
They are awfully close to the Brewers in the standings, and while Milwaukee is clearly better, they currently don’t have a hitter like Goldy.
In 40 games and 177 plate appearances, the slugger is slashing .338/.403/.573 with seven home runs, 25 runs, 33 RBI, and even three stolen bases.
Those rates would be the best ones in his career, but the season is still young.
He will need to keep up this level to get the Cards into October and fight for individual accolades, but as his recent hitting streak can attest, he is more than capable of doing just that.
