The St. Louis Cardinals are riding high after a 9-1 blowout victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night.
While the story of the game was Miles Mikolas‘ near no-hitter, the performance of slugger Paul Goldschmidt was just as instrumental.
The MVP candidate hit two home runs in the nightcap of a doubleheader, driving in five total runs.
He’s still on quite the torrid stretch and is leading the way for the Cardinals as they look to separate themselves from the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central.
Stats By STATS tweeted Goldschmidt’s stats over the past couple of days, and let’s just say these are some gaudy numbers.
Paul Goldschmidt of the @Cardinals is the first MLB player to have…
9+ hits
9+ RBI
6+ runs scored
5+ extra-base hits
4+ home runs
0 strikeouts…over a 2-day span since Ty Cobb did so from May 5-6, 1925.

Goldy Being Goldy
Can anybody stop Goldschmidt right now?
The answer is probably no.
This man is on a roll and is showing zero signs of slowing down anytime soon.
He’s almost certain to be named a National League All-Star with the way he has been hitting.
He’ll definitely garner some MVP votes if he keeps this up.
The fact that he hasn’t struck out once over the past two days is unbelievable.
Nine hits, nine RBI, six runs scored, five extra base hits, and four home runs will put you on quite the pedestal.
There is just simply no one on the planet who is hotter than Goldschmidt is right now.
He provided the extra insurance that allowed Mikolas to cruise in last night’s game, and while his performance may get lost behind what Mikolas was able to do, it’s still equally as important.
Goldschmidt just can’t be stopped.
When a hitter is in a zone like this, it’s hard to take him out of it.
