The St. Louis Cardinals will visit the Milwaukee Brewers for a three-game set starting on Tuesday night.
The Cards have a 6.5-game lead in the NL Central over the Brewers, but if the latter sweeps, things could get very interesting for the last two series of the season.
St. Louis is in a great position, but it’s important to point out that they haven’t even sealed their ticket to the playoffs yet.
Fortunately for the redbirds, they have the primary candidate to win the National League MVP award at this point: Paul Goldschmidt.
Coincidentally, Goldy usually hits very well against the Brewers.
“Goldy rakes against the Brewers. (MLBStats x @GEICO),” MLB Stats tweeted ahead of the pivotal series.

Excellent Numbers Against The Brewers
In 108 career games against Milwaukee, the first baseman is hitting .312 with a .999 OPS and 27 home runs.
He has also driven in 78 RBI in those games.
In other words, every time he sees the Brewers, he plays like an MVP should play.
The Cardinals need that at the moment to secure their ticket to the playoffs.
They don’t have any realistic chances of earning a first-round bye anymore because of the New York Mets’ excellent play as of late, but winning the division remains the primary objective.
Once in the postseason, the Cardinals would have as good of a chance as anyone to get past the Wild Card round, where they would play at home for the three hypothetical games.
But they have to finish off the Brewers first if they want to start planning for October, and Goldschmidt – the owner of a .317/.404/.584 line and 35 homers this year – will try to pitch in, as he usually does against Milwaukee.NEXT: Albert Pujols Reached Milestones In Several Historic Venues
