Outside of teams in their own division, which every organization faces almost 20 times per year, the rest of the schedule is uncertain and mysterious.
Several years can go by and some specific squads won’t face each other.
This is the case with the San Diego Padres and the Detroit Tigers.
San Diego has never won in Detroit.
It may seem shocking, but it’s true: there have been just a handful of games between the two teams, but every time they play in the Motor City, the home club gets the victory.
“Tonight the Padres will try and win in Detroit for the first time ever. 0-3 in 1984 World Series and 0-3 at Comerica in only series there. Last time teams met, it was June 16, 2005 and the only Padre run came on a leadoff homer from the current Dodger manager,” Jesse Agler, a Padres broadcaster, tweeted.

The Padres Haven’t Had Enough Luck To Win In Detroit Yet
The Tigers famously won that World Series, 4-1, thanks to Alan Trammell’s MVP performance, Jack Morris, and other top players.
The only Padres win came in San Diego.
The Padres were swept in Comerica Park, in 2005.
Right now, the teams are living in opposite realities: the 38-58 Tigers are last in the AL Central and have lost three games in a row.
On the other hand, the Padres are 54-43, 11.5 games behind the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers but in a much, much better position to fight for a postseason spot.
The odds are high that the Padres will get their first ever win in Detroit.
It seems very hard to believe, but those are the facts: playing at home, the Tigers are undefeated against the friars.
For San Diego, this is the perfect time to break that long drought.
