Padres And Giants Combined For Unique MLB History On Monday

MLB is full of odd stats: each individual game could surprise us with some historic piece of data, or some development that hasn’t occurred since the early 1900s.

That’s part of the beauty of baseball: the surprise element is ever-present.

Last night, in the San Diego Padres’ 4-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants, we witnessed some history, and the best (or worst?) part of all is that most of us didn’t even realize it.

Steven Wilson, Tyler Rogers, and Taylor Rogers were all born in the same town, and just for the second time since 1901, three players from the same city earned the win, the loss, and the save in the same game.

“Littleton, Colorado represent! Last night was the 2nd @MLB game since 1901 where the W, L, and Sv pitchers were all born in the same city (Per @baseball_ref). @Swilson2436 @tyrogers2020 @trogers34,” the Padres’ official Twitter account wrote.

Three Littleton Natives Made MLB History

A quick Wikipedia search will tell us that Littleton is part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area and that its population was 45,652 at the 2020 United States Census.

It’s not a particularly big city, so it’s actually somewhat surprising that last night’s statistical oddity took place with three Littleton natives.

To be fair, two of them were born in the same day (December 17, 1990): Taylor and Tyler Rogers are twins.

The Padres’ Wilson was the winner, allowing a single run in one inning of work, with two hits and a walk.

Tyler Rogers, a late-inning reliever for the Giants, took the loss, conceding a run in one frame; while his brother Taylor saved the game with a perfect ninth.

Just another funny story for them to tell to their grandchildren.
