The Miami Marlins are not a team people are looking at as a potential contender this year, but they do have some intriguing players on their roster such as Sandy Alcantara, Pablo Lopez, and Jazz Chisholm Jr.
But perhaps we should dive into Lopez for a little bit.
He is quickly turning into one of the best pitchers in all of baseball and is putting himself in the conversation for the National League Cy Young award.
He’s 4-1 in eight starts with a 1.57 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP.
That’s the best ERA in the entire National League.
Baseball Reference tweeted a list of the top four ERAs in the NL, with Lopez being just a hair ahead of Miles Mikolas for No. 1.

Cy Young Candidate?
Lopez is off to a terrific start and is showing everybody why he is an early Cy Young favorite.
The man can pitch and is putting himself up there with guys such as Max Scherzer, Walker Buehler, and Jacob deGrom.
Lopez is the guy that is leading the way for not just the Marlins, but for other pitchers as well.
He’s proving what kind of pitcher he is.
He’s a guy that is capable of going out there and winning a Cy Young.
He emerged as a front-line starter a year ago, going 5-5 in 20 starts with a 3.07 ERA.
But now, he looks like a true ace who can lead a pitching staff.
If the Marlins fall out of contention, perhaps a team could come calling for him at the trade deadline.
He’d be a huge boost for any pitching staff, and we’ll see if he can continue dominating and turning himself into a superstar.
