The New York Yankees were relatively quiet before the MLB lockout, when the rest of the league rushed to sign most of the available free agents.
They missed out on most of their targets, most notably shortstop Corey Seager.
Perhaps they didn’t expect the Texas Rangers to put $325 million reasons on the table for him to sign there.
But they badly need a shortstop: Gleyber Torres has been horrific with the glove there, and he looks more composed at second.
Gio Urshela, who played short for the Yankees down the stretch in 2021, is a natural third baseman.
The Yankees, therefore, have a need at the position.
The Yankees Are The Best Fit For Correa
They have been long connected with former Houston Astros’ shortstop Carlos Correa, who hit 26 home runs last year while taking his team to the playoffs with great all-around play, including Gold-Glove worthy defense.
“The Yankees make the most sense for Carlos Correa and is a bigger need for them than a lot of these other teams. The Cubs and Angels are probably the biggest threats for Correa,” USA Today’s writer Doug Rush tweeted.

Indeed, the marriage makes too much sense for both parties not to consider it.
The Yankees’ fan base is expecting them to make some noise after the lockout is lifted, and Correa wants to play for a playoff-caliber team, like the one in New York.
One team to keep an eye on is the Cubs, who have Nico Hoerner as their shortstop right now.
The Angels also have a huge need at shortstop, but they may focus on pitching instead.
When it comes to budget and need, however, it’s hard to find a better fit than the Yankees for Correa’s services.
