Remember when some people were concerned that Donovan Mitchell wouldn’t fit in with the Cleveland Cavaliers?
Yes, there were those afraid that Mitchell’s inclusion with the team could take some time to work and that the chemistry and promise of the team could be affected.
That just simply hasn’t been the case at all so far in 2022-23.

Mitchell is now a great, beneficial part of the team and has taken them to the next level.
The Cavaliers are the 3rd team in the East with a strong 17-10 record and have defeated some of the best teams in the league.
And his partnership with guard Darius Garland is an amazing, league-changing one.
In fact, Mitchell and Garland are now the highest-scoring backcourt in the NBA right now, putting up an average of 51 points a game.
That’s ahead of Luka Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie of the Dallas Mavericks (49.2 points), Trae young and Dejounte Murray of the Atlanta Hawks (48.3 points), Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors (48.2 points), and DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine of the Chicago Bulls (47.7).
It’s impressive to see two guys who have only played together for a few months take over the league in such as way.
Cavaliers Conquering
So the Mitchell experiment has worked, that is safe to say.
Now the question is just how far this backcourt – and the rest of the team – can go.
Can they overtake the Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, and the rest of the East to make the Finals?
Or is it too soon for this team to go that far?
The Cavaliers have been remarkably consistent so far this season and that’s very promising news.
Despite tough competition, they have remained in their third spot in the East for weeks now and have been able to battle and beat some of the best squads in the NBA.
