The Cleveland Browns did not get the play they wanted from Baker Mayfield in 2021.
He was injured all season and looked like a shell of his former self at the worst possible time.
His rough year prevented him from signing a massive extension, leaving him to prove himself in 2022.
Fans entered the offseason wondering if the Browns plan to move on from him.
For now, the front office is sticking by Mayfield’s side.
#Browns GM Andrew Berry said we fully expect QB Baker Mayfield to be our starter in 2022 and to bounce back
— Nate Ulrich (@ByNateUlrich) January 11, 2022
GM Andrew Berry is saying Mayfield is the starter in 2022, not that he really has another option at this point in time.
While this could always change, fans are reacting to the news Mayfield is getting a chance to lead the Browns again in 2022.
if the Browns want to keep Baker Mayfield then they’re up there with the NY Giants for top #ClownShowOrg

Mixed Reaction To Latest Mayfield Update
Mayfield has been a polarizing player for years and this news only further highlights that fact.
I. Love. Baker. Reagan. Mayfield. https://t.co/8URSzLgHOV

Can reporters just stop asking baker mayfield questions, this answer doesn't help his case https://t.co/ECvjJbXHRZ

Super refreshing to see the @Browns not be the reactionary dumb dumbs this year and actually keep a QB who’s giving his all and has measurable potential in @bakermayfield and building around him. This is what successful organizations do.

Fans are either in his corner or fully against him.
There is no real in between about just sitting back and seeing what happens.
He will bounce back @bakermayfield 🤞🏾🤞🏾 https://t.co/98FRj2JBW2

He is a brash player and continually speaks out with confidence.
That is a great quality, but the results have just not been there to back it up.
That leaves Mayfield in a tough spot heading into the final year of his rookie deal.
He is playing on a fifth-year option while Josh Allen, who was also in his draft class, did enough to earn a deal with $150 million guaranteed.
Baker Mayfield doesn't get it. It's not about him. It never was & never will be. Until he realizes that he will never be a leader on THIS #Browns team. All he needs to do is play his part. Be efficient, don't turn the ball over & finish drives in the 4th quarter. Team effort wins https://t.co/5Rp8vzc6lV

The Browns are, as of right now, giving Mayfield one final chance to prove he can lead this team to greatness.
Yet the team would be wise to bring in some competition, just to avoid a lost season if Mayfield cannot live up to his bold words.
