Anthony Richardson is one of the most polarizing quarterback prospects in the 2023 quarterback class.
Some teams have graded him as a first-round NFL talent, while others have him closer to a third or fourth-round pick.
Richardson has a similar mold to a new-age of NFL quarterback, with a large amount of mobility and a big arm.
In a press conference at the combine, when asked about a potential player comparison, Richardson said: “I believe it is Cam.”

Cam, of course, is Cam Newton.
Although the end of his NFL career left something to be desired, Newton was one of the most electrifying players in the league for several seasons.
Newton was league MVP in 2015, the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2011, and holds the NFL record for quarterback rushing touchdowns.
During his last two collegiate seasons, Newton threw for 5,687 yards and 52 touchdowns, adding in 2,128 rushing yards and 36 rushing touchdowns.
For comparison, Richardson’s final two collegiate seasons totaled 3,078 passing yards and 23 touchdowns, along with 1,055 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns.
While Richardson may have a similar play style to Newton, their collegiate careers were quite different.
Richardson is also 6-foot-4 and 232 pounds.
When he entered the NFL, Newton was 6-foot-5 and 248 pounds.
Again, Richardson’s build and play style are similar to Newton’s, but will he be able to transfer his abilities to the NFL?
Richardson’s immediate success could be largely dependent on the team that he is drafted to, given their weapons and offensive line situation.
