The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have officially begun a quarterback competition.
Tom Brady is gone from the team, leaving the next person to suit up at quarterback with big shoes to fill.
If early rumors are any indication, Baker Mayfield has the fast track to be the Buccaneers’ starter to begin the season.
“Mayfield has been working like a player who’s lost two jobs in the past,” Jeremy Fowler said, via SportsCenter and Bleacher Report.

As Fowler later indicated, “He’s had a nice edge to him behind the scenes.”
Mayfield was the first overall pick in the 2018 draft, selected by the Cleveland Browns.
After his successful collegiate career, a lot was expected out of Mayfield.
However, he’s fallen from grace over the past several years and is now on his fourth NFL team in six seasons.
He was unable to hold onto the starting job for the Carolina Panthers and was a fill-in for Matthew Stafford on the Los Angeles Rams last season.
Being that Mayfield’s competition is Kyle Trask, his NFL experience alone should be enough for the Buccaneers to give him a chance this year.
However, Trask was a second-round pick in 2021, meaning that the team believed in his talent and future potential.
If Mayfield has any struggles, it could be a great opportunity for Trask to take over, showing the team what he’s able to do.
