After the San Francisco 49ers got blown out by the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game, they have been left to figure out if they need to make any significant changes to their roster or if they simply need good health at the quarterback position.
One rumor that has circulated around social media lately is that they may decide to trade wide receiver Deebo Samuel to the New England Patriots.
However, NFL insider Albert Breer says a 49ers source confirmed that the rumor is bogus.
The #Patriots have not contacted the #49ers about trading for WR Deebo Samuel, despite recent rumors saying otherwise.
A 49ers source said told @AlbertBreer:
A) "We're not trading him."
B) "They haven't called." pic.twitter.com/4ydY3P9Zh2

Samuel has become one of the NFL’s better wide receivers, and at age 27 he should have plenty of football left in him.
After he was a second-round draft pick in 2019, he had a promising rookie season with 802 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and following an injury-riddled 2020 campaign, he broke out in a big way last year.
Samuel put up 1,405 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns in 2021, which earned him both Pro Bowl and All-Pro first-team honors.
This season, his numbers dipped down to 632 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns, which has led some 49ers fans to believe that perhaps he’s not all that.
Last offseason, Samuel asked the team to trade him, but he instead signed a very lucrative contract extension to remain in the Bay.
Perhaps his greatest strength is his versatility, as he sometimes lines up in the backfield and takes snaps as a running back.
With Brock Purdy apparently representing an upgrade over Jimmy Garoppolo at QB, perhaps Samuel will go back over the 1,000 receiving-yard mark next season — assuming he is still a 49er.NEXT: Christian McCaffrey May Break Records In A Full 49ers Season
