The Divisional Round game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills was arguably the best game of the 2021 NFL season.
Both teams wrestled with the lead in the final two minutes and Josh Allen‘s touchdown pass to Gabriel Davis looked to be the final nail in the Chiefs’ coffin.
However, Patrick Mahomes proved that 13 seconds is enough to force overtime.
The coin toss went in their favor and Mahomes’ touchdown pass to Travis Kelce gave them the victory.
If the Bills won the toss, they could have been the team hosting the Cincinnati Bengals for the AFC Championship Game.
But while the NFL’s competition committee discussed changes to the overtime rules due to this game, no one can argue that Mahomes and Allen had mutual respect.
I think about this moment all the time. Yes— the #Bills #Chiefs coin toss situation stunk but this embrace was my favorite post game moment of the year. @PatrickMahomes @JoshAllenQB pic.twitter.com/QB2b99z4Xc

ESPN’s Dianna Russini tweeted, “I think about this moment all the time. Yes— the #Bills #Chiefs coin toss situation stunk but this embrace was my favorite post-game moment of the year. @PatrickMahomes @JoshAllenQB.”
Mahomes rushed to find Allen and gave him a respectful hug.
The 2018 NFL MVP knew that his counterpart laid everything on the field to get the victory.
They were 13 seconds away from doing so, but Mahomes’ ability to deliver in the clutch makes him a legend in his own right.
More Battles Between Mahomes And Allen
While they teamed up to face Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady during the sixth edition of “The Match,” there will be more matches between these two quarterbacks in the future.
They will inevitably face each other in future playoff games which could also turn out to be classics.
If you’re looking for the second coming of Brady versus Manning, this friendly rivalry is living up to the billing.
