With the 2022 NFL Draft over, it’s now time for teams to sign their players to a contract.
Typically, rookie deals are up to four years and the total amount depends on draft position.
Therefore, first-round picks could earn more than those selected in the succeeding rounds.
Aside from the base salary, they will also get a signing bonus and other incentives.
First-round picks are also eligible for a fifth-year option which is a fully-guaranteed payday.
As ESPN insider Adam Schefter revealed, the Green Bay Packers won the race of signing first-round picks.
The first 2022 first-round pick now has agreed to terms: former Georgia standout Devonte Wyatt and the Packers reached agreement on a four-year, fully guaranteed $12.86 million deal that includes a $6.53 million signing bonus, per source.

Schefter tweeted, “The first 2022 first-round pick now has agreed to terms: former Georgia standout Devonte Wyatt and the Packers reached agreement on a four-year, fully guaranteed $12.86 million deal that includes a $6.53 million signing bonus, per source.”
The defensive tackle was selected 28th overall by the reigning NFC North champions.
He and sixth-round pick Amare Barro are the first two draftees to sign their rookie deals.
Wyatt is one of an NFL-record 15 players selected from the University of Georgia.
That’s the most number of players taken from one school in a seven-round draft.
He is part of the Bulldogs defense that dominated last season en route to a National Championship.
Wyatt will be reunited with linebacker Quay Walker whom the Packers selected at 22nd overall.
Packers Making Adjustments On Defense
Green Bay expects Wyatt and Walker to upgrade their defense, especially after losing Za’Darius Smith to the Minnesota Vikings and releasing Whitney Mercilus.
In his final year with the Bulldogs, Wyatt had 39 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one fumble recovery.
His numbers may not be high, but he can help make a push upfront and attract double teams from offensive linemen.
That way, Walker, Rashan Gary, Preston Smith, and Dean Lowry could apply pressure to the quarterback.
