The Dallas Cowboys need wide receiver Michael Gallup more than ever, especially now that they lost Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson.
The Colorado State alumnus will be a fixture in the team’s passing game with CeeDee Lamb and Jalen Tolbert.
However, he is still nursing an ACL injury, making the timeline for his return indefinite.
But instead of the long wait, NFL Network national insider Ian Rapoport shared that Gallup might be back sooner than later.
Michael Gallup is doing well. As it stands now, he won’t start on PUP, meaning he can play within the first four games of the season. https://t.co/jPAi1ofsWj

Rapoport tweeted, “Michael Gallup is doing well. As it stands now, he won’t start on PUP, meaning he can play within the first four games of the season.”
He shared that in response to Dallas Morning News’ Michael Gehlken, who reported, “Cowboys owner Jerry Jones indicated WR Michael Gallup (ACL) won’t start the season on PUP.”
With Gallup not on the Physically Unable To Perform (PUP) list, he can return as early as Week 1 when the Cowboys face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Likewise, it is a positive sign because he can suit up any time from Weeks 1 to 4.
That means Gallup may return against the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Giants, or Washington Commanders.
Gallup’s NFL Career So Far
After being selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Gallup finished his rookie season with 507 and two touchdowns.
Then came the best season in his career with 1,107 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
In 2020, Gallup had 843 yards and five touchdowns.
Last season, he finished with 445 yards and two scores.
He has played in two postseason games with the Cowboys, garnering 137 yards and a touchdown.
The Georgia native has 193 receptions, 2,902 yards, and 15 touchdowns in four NFL seasons.
His production should increase in 2022 now that he will be a projected starter.
