The New Orleans Saints finished with a 9-8 record despite the obstacles they had to endure last season.
They still had an opportunity to make the playoffs, but their fate depended on other teams.
Still, finishing with a winning record is impressive considering that they lost five straight games after Jameis Winston suffered a torn ACL.
That overview made the Saints think they could compete for a postseason berth in 2022, especially with Winston back.
That’s why trading their original first-rounder to the Philadelphia Eagles makes sense, as NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah pointed out.
Reached out to 6 GM’s to get their thoughts on Saints motive for the trade with Eagles. Majority think it’s about Saints believing they are really close and two quality starters could put them in playoffs right now. One mentioned Ridder as mid 1st possibility.

Jeremiah tweeted, “Reached out to 6 GM’s to get their thoughts on Saints motive for the trade with Eagles. Majority think it’s about Saints believing they are really close, and two quality starters could put them in playoffs right now. One mentioned Ridder as mid 1st possibility.”
The Saints traded their 2022 and 2023 first-rounders for Philadelphia’s 16th and 19th overall pick in this year’s draft.
This transaction puts New Orleans in a position to get players that can help them immediately.
It’s not time to tear the roster apart since they’ve had the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ number the past two seasons.
Who Will The Saints Draft?
In his tweet, Jeremiah revealed that the Saints might get former Cincinnati Bearcats quarterback Desmond Ridder.
He would be an excellent understudy behind Winston and veteran Andy Dalton.
But given that their quarterback depth chart is complete, the Saints might not even draft a quarterback.
They can also get a wide receiver to pair with Michael Thomas.
This year’s draft is deep in that position, and they can get an immediate starter midway into the first round.
As for their other first-round pick, the Saints can get an offensive lineman to fill the void that Terron Armstead left when he joined the Miami Dolphins.
