Jeff Darlington is a long-time NFL reporter.
If there is one person that is fit to discuss Tom Brady and his mental status heading into retirement, it’s Darlington.
He has a great relationship with many players throughout the league, including Brady.
After Brady’s announcement this morning, Darlington had a few comments on the situation regarding Brady’s mindset.
Here's how I'd best describe my understanding of Tom Brady's mentality as he retires: Exhausted. Ready to recharge and rebuild. As I wrote in my recent essay about Brady, "There's more to remaining ageless than the velocity of a pass." He left it all on the field. All of it.

A 23-year career in the NFL must be exhausting.
A player of Brady’s caliber is under constant stress and duress, as there are many expectations of a player like that.
Although Brady was incredibly successful throughout his career, there became yearly Super Bowl aspirations, something that is nearly impossible for any player, even Brady.
The New England Patriots organization got incredibly accustomed to winning, as Brady had established that culture.
The same was said in Tampa Bay, as Brady led them to a Super Bowl victory in his first season with the team.
Without Brady, the league will certainly look a lot different, as a long-time staple in the league will now be retired.
He revolutionized the quarterback position, causing thousands of young athletes to follow in his footsteps.
The good news for NFL fans is that, at some point, Brady will be entering the broadcasting booth with Fox Sports.
In the 2022 offseason Brady signed a ten-year contract with the broadcaster and whenever he decides he is ready, he will begin his broadcasting career.
As Darlington recants above, at the moment, Brady will likely take some time to recover from his time in the league.
