The Atlanta Falcons badly need help after missing the playoffs yet again.

They’ve been in a steep fall from grace after their defeat in Super Bowl LI as they failed to qualify for the postseason since 2018.

Therefore, they need to overhaul their roster, especially on the offensive line and on defense in general.

One position that they don’t need help with is quarterback because they still have former league MVP Matt Ryan.

However, there seems to be a possibility of a change under center, as suggested by Good Morning Football host Peter Schager’s tweet.

The latest on Falcons and Watson– there's a possible meeting, but nothing official set yet for today. Still some things that all sides are working through before any meeting with Watson can happen. @GMFB

Schrager said, “The latest on Falcons and Watson — there’s a possible meeting, but nothing official set yet for today. Still some things that all sides are working through before any meeting with Watson can happen. @GMFB.”

The Falcons are aware of Ryan’s inevitable retirement soon and they would like to get a younger quarterback who is on the rise.

Likewise, the salary cap won’t be a concern because the contracts of the two quarterbacks are roughly the same.

Ryan signed a five-year, $150 million deal with the Falcons in 2018 but recently had his contract restructured by converting some cash into a signing bonus and adding three void years.

Meanwhile, Watson signed a four-year, $156 million contract with the Houston Texans in 2020, meaning that the team that will get him must compensate for the final years of his deal.

Will Watson Choose Atlanta?

The Falcons can offer the best trade package to the Texans, but it will be worthless if Watson doesn’t choose Atlanta.

He has the power of deciding where to go because of his no-trade clause and apparently, the Falcons aren’t the most attractive option.

The New Orleans Saints and the Cleveland Browns are also making a push for the quarterback.

Most likely, Watson would choose a team that will give him the best chance of competing in the postseason.
