The NFL has been under scrutiny this season for the officiating across the league.
It appears that this year more than ever, the officials have affected the outcome of many games.
There have been plenty of bad calls made this season, and NFL fans are hoping for a change.
But, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell continues to defend the officiating in the league.
Roger Goodell issuing a lengthy defense against criticism of NFL officiating, saying he thinks it’s never been better.
“The reality is our officials are held to an incredibly high standard. Will we try to get better? You betcha.”

Even though Goodell had to say that, looking at the officials, changes must be made.
The first issue is with roughing the passer penalties.
It seems like there is no clear idea of what is or is not roughing the passer.
Some roughing-the-passer calls make it seem like quarterbacks can not be touched.
We have seen plenty of personal foul calls directly affect who wins or loses.
One thing the NFL could do is better train their officials in the offseason.
Teach them exactly what to look for, and what calls to make.
Also, they could have repercussions for any officials that miss calls.
Either suspending them a game, or a fine could help clean up the plethora of missed calls.
Lastly, finding full-time officials that spend all year working on their craft is another good idea.
Some of the other calls that have been botched this season are pass interference.
We have seen on numerous occasions when an offensive player is interfered with and nothing is called.
That is another big call that needs to be more correctly officiated.
At the end of the day, the officiating issues need to be cleaned up in the NFL, and hopefully, no bad calls will affect the Super Bowl.
