The one big question surrounding the San Francisco 49ers as they hold OTAs is who will start at quarterback for them this fall and winter.
Will it be Brock Purdy, who took over admirably for the injured Jimmy Garoppolo late last season but suffered a torn UCL in his throwing elbow in the NFC Championship Game?
Will it be Trey Lance, who began 2022 as the starter, only to suffer a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2?
Or could it even be Sam Darnold, whom the 49ers brought in as a free agent for depth and insurance?
NFL analyst Adam Schein made some bold predictions for the 2023 season, and one of them — actually the top one — was that Darnold will be their starter and lead them to a Super Bowl championship over Aaron Rodgers’ New York Jets.

First of all, Darnold will likely not be the Niners’ starter unless they’re beset yet again with injuries to at least one of their signal-callers.
Second, although the Niners are one of the favorites to win the world championship, it seems more likely than not that the Jets won’t reach the Super Bowl, partly due to the insane level of talent and depth in the AFC.
Darnold was once thought to be a prime QB prospect after he shined brightly in college at the University of Southern California.
He was the No. 3 pick in the 2018 draft, but through five seasons, he has completed just 59.7 percent of his passes while throwing 55 interceptions and just 61 touchdown passes.
However, San Francisco could do a lot worse than having him as their third-string QB.
