Matt Nagy was the Chicago Bears’ head coach for four NFL seasons.
Before that stint, he was the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs.
He also spent five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, starting with being a coaching intern, coaches’ assistant, and offensive quality control coach.
He had mixed results in his tenure with Chicago which ended with a 34-31 record.
The team made the playoffs twice under his guidance but failed to win a postseason game.
His record also worsened from 12-4 in 2018 to 6-11 in 2021.
In what turned out to be his final year in Chicago, he was able to coach quarterback Justin Fields.
As an offensive-minded coach, he should have put his capabilities to good use.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case, as shown by NBC Sports’ Warren Sharp.

Sharp tweeted, “Still can’t believe Matt Nagy wasn’t thrown in prison at halftime for his game plan in Justin Fields’ first start.”
Fields faced the Cleveland Browns, who had Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney on the defensive line.
The rookie was slow in reacting to situations, leading him to either release the ball late or take the sack.
The play-action and run-pass option schemes they were running were head-scratching because the Browns already knew what would happen.
In the end, the Bears lost that Week 3 game, 26-6.
Fields completed only six passes out of 20 attempts for 68 yards.
Meanwhile, the Bears’ poor play-calling led to nine Browns sacks, 4.5 of which were from Garrett.
Bears Hoping For Better Days
With Fields becoming the full-pledged starter, the Bears hope that his experience will help him have a better sophomore season.
Unfortunately, it’s difficult to see that happening because there isn’t much talent surrounding him.
Still, the Bears are banking on Fields showing his full potential.
Otherwise, trading up for him was a waste of resources.
