The Boston Celtics ended up winning their game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night but not without experiencing a possibly devastating injury.
The team’s big man, Robert Williams, suffered a meniscus tear in his left knee and is now out indefinitely because of it.
Boston Celtics center Robert Williams is feared to have suffered a meniscus tear in his left knee, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. It could lead to an indefinite absence, which would be a tough loss for the Celtics as Williams is shining as the starting center this season.

As Shams Charania and others have pointed out, Williams has become one of the star players of the team this year and a major part of their resurgence.
Partly thanks to Williams, the team is now tied for the number one spot in the East and have won 24 of their last 28 games.
As you can imagine, the loss of Williams has sent shockwaves throughout the NBA world.
Will They Win Without Williams?
Celtics fans were immediately very nervous when it became apparent that Williams was hurt.
That’s because, with an average of 10 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks a game, Williams has been a defensive powerhouse that has taken the team to a whole new level.
Boston fans were fearing the worst and dying for some news about the severity of the injury.
everyone talking about the Will Smith slap and all I want to know is if Robert Williams III is going to be ok

The loss of Williams is a real cause for panic because, as mentioned, he is part of the reason why the team is playing like a number one seed.
It’s difficult to see how they can keep playing at such a competitive level without him.
The #Celtics might be able to sustain and be competitive, but Robert Williams was the player who rose their ceiling to championship level status. That’s gone now. Absolutely brutal.

While it’s very important that he comes back soon, it’s also important that he doesn’t come back too soon and only make things worse.
We need Robert Williams desperately, but I’m super afraid of him coming back from injury too soon to help with a playoff run and getting hurt even worse.
Maybe that’s just me.

The reality is that the team is full of talented players who will need to step up in the weeks ahead.
This isn’t the end of the road for the Celtics but it’s certainly a huge speed bump on their road to the NBA Finals.
