Isaiah Thomas is back in the NBA – sort of.
After an explosive career in the G League following years of being exiled from the NBA, the former All-Star has just signed his second 10-day contract, this time with the Dallas Mavericks.

It follows a first 10-day signing with the Los Angeles Lakers where Thomas created 9.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists while shooting 30.8 percent from the field and 22.7 percent from the three-point range.
While those weren’t like the same type of stats he put up during the heyday of his career, Thomas still has a lot of promise and with a league decimated by coronavirus restrictions, maybe it’s time for a team to sign Thomas full-time.
But who should that be?
3. Denver Nuggets
The Denver Nuggets had it bad before COVID began to devastate the league.
They are prone to injuries and have lost some of their biggest stars to them.
Most notably, the Nuggets are without their fantastic point guard Jamal Murray, who has been sidelined all season with an injury.
Signing Thomas would give the team a point guard who, when healthy, is able to make some great shots and create terrific plays too.
He’s not defensively strong but that’s a whole other issue the Nuggets need to work on.
Thomas would give the team a guard who could fill in some of the void left by Murray and could keep the team pushing forward and competitive until his return.
2. New Orleans Pelicans
Thomas actually played for the New Orleans Pelicans in the past but he should definitely make a return full-time.
The team is in desperate need of offense and that’s exactly what Thomas would bring.
New Orleans is actually the fourth-worst team in guard scoring throughout the league – an area where Thomas could definitely help them, even if not tremendously.
Plus, the Pelicans are not going far this season – especially without Zion Williamson, whose return is consistently being delayed.

This signing would give Thomas time to perfect his game and get stronger and more re-adjusted to the league because there would be no pressure for immediate, explosive success.
The Pelicans should take a chance on Thomas because he would be inexpensive, effective, and would be able to find his footing as the team awaits its glory days with Williamson again.
1. Boston Celtics
This is a signing idea that not only makes sense but feels justified and poetic too.
Of course, Thomas used to play for the Boston Celtics when he was playing to the best of his abilities.
A return to the Celtics would just feel right.
No, Thomas wouldn’t be as good as he once was but he would definitely help the team, which relies far too much on Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
Thomas would take some pressure off their shoulders, facilitate some plays, move the ball, and just help the team move and function better.
Plus, there’s a chance he could get inspired playing for the team where it all started and could become fired up and amazing.
Wouldn’t that be something awesome to see in the twilight years of Thomas’ career?
