The Kansas City Chiefs couldn’t get the job done in the season opener, losing their Week 1 matchup for the first time since Patrick Mahomes became a starter.
Mahomes was as good as usual, but he couldn’t find a reliable receiver all night long, completing passes to 11 different players without Travis Kelce on the field.
A tipped-in interception and some defensive woes led to this heartbreaking 21-20 loss.
But more than that, the Chiefs’ defense struggled to be at their best in this matchup, allowing 368 total yards and 118 rushing yards.
That’s why internet personality Josiah Johnson joked about Chris Jones enjoying watching his team lose this game, and Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young chimed in by letting it be known that he’s going to get paid big time after that loss.

Notably, Jones has held out throughout the course of the entire offseason.
He’s piled up more than $2 million in fines, but has made it loud and clear that he has no intention whatsoever of suiting up unless he gets a new contract.
Jones was already one of the highest-paid defensive players in the league as it was, but he’s looking at a potential record-breaking contract.
And while the Chiefs stated that they were willing to make that happen, both parties seemingly reached a stalemate.
The Chiefs need their best defender on the field as soon as possible, and GM Brett Veach will most likely have to throw in more guaranteed money if that’s what it takes to get a deal done now.
