Kyrie Irving got everyone on the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers all worked up for days and, in the end, it was much ado about nothing.
After days of serious rumors saying Irving was about to ditch the Nets for the Lakers, he made his future plans known on Monday afternoon.
He announced that he was indeed sticking around with the Nets and would opt in to his $37 million player option for the 2022-23 season.
But not only did Irving shock the NBA world by sticking with Brooklyn, he also released a very unique, very Kyrie quote.
Kyrie Irving: “Normal people keep the world going, but those who dare to be different lead us into tomorrow. I’ve made my decision to opt in. See you in the fall. A11even.” https://t.co/rpiS8YkSZI

Shams Charania shared Irving’s words after the announcement about his plans were revealed.
Irving said, “Normal people keep the world going, but those who dare to be different lead us into tomorrow. I’ve made my decision to opt in. See you in the fall.”
To some, the quote was sweet music.
To others, it was just more annoying nonsense.
Kyrie Remains
So there you have it: the Nets get Irving for another season.
That’s good news for the team because he is still one of the best point guards in the league and was putting up 27 points a game – when he was playing.
As for the Lakers, they’re definitely upset at how everything went down but they will survive.
This entire episode – from the rumors to the cryptic tweets to the eventual announcement and the quote – feels exactly like Irving.
Irving is always going to do what he wants to do – in a very peculiar way.
Anyone who expected him to actually do what people expected should have stopped themselves from assuming.
Irving will always go to the beat of his own drum.
