No one knows where things stand with Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies right now.
The player is facing at least a two-game suspension after footage of him brandishing a gun at a nightclub went viral this weekend.
That suspension comes from the team itself, while the NBA is investigating the matter and could come back with a longer suspension.
In fact, Morant could be facing a lot of time away.
As noted by NBACentral, reporter Marc Stein said that the current collective bargaining agreement in the NBA states that if there is a firearm on team premises (including a plane), a player is subject to an automatic 50-game suspension.
This is why the league is currently trying to figure out where Morant’s gun came from and if he traveled with it.
“The CBA says if there is a firearm on team premises [team plane], that’s an automatic 50-game suspension. That’s why the league is trying to ascertain where was the gun before the Instagram video.” 😳

If Morant did indeed carry the firearm on the team’s plane then he could be out for the rest of the season and a good chunk of next year too.
This would not only be hugely detrimental to his Grizzlies (currently the second-best team in the West) but it would also greatly hurt his career too.
The public image of Morant has been seriously harmed over the last few weeks.
The gun incident was just the latest in a string of nasty headlines around the promising young star.
If he were forced to sit out for 50 games, it would be the biggest blow against him.
Morant recently released a statement saying he was going to take some time away from the game to seek help and manage his personal life.
If the NBA determines that he was carrying a gun on the team’s plane, then he will have plenty of time to do that.
