At this point, anything that Kyrie Irving of the Dallas Mavericks says is going to be met with some controversy.
Whether it be his on or off-court comments, Irving is going to receive pushback.
Fans of the Brooklyn Nets are still sore about Irving leaving the team back in February, leading to a complete breakdown of the roster and the loss of Kevin Durant.
Irving touched upon his decision to leave Brooklyn the other night, according to NBA writer Alec Sturm.
Speaking of his departure, Irving said, “I wanted to finish out the season with Brooklyn, finish out that season we had going and I didn’t get a chance to do that.”
Kyrie Irving last night, in part: "I wanted to finish out the season with Brooklyn, finish out that season we had going and I didn't get a chance to do that."
As a reminder: Irving's representation requested a trade, blindsiding everyone. He would not play until he got moved.

Irving’s words were immediately met with a lot of heated responses online.
Many of those responses were not kind to Irving.
One Twitter user was humorous, saying, “We need to find out who is responsible for not letting Kyrie finish out the season in Brooklyn. Need to research this.”

You can practically feel the sarcasm dripping off that tweet.
Other people were more honest about their hurt.
“He is inconsistent and not reliable. A week earlier he publicly said he wanted to stay in Brooklyn. Then within a week he requested a trade and blew the whole thing up,” a fan said on Twitter.
He added that Irving also “basically ruined the Mavs by losing players and chemistry.”
I liked Kyrie and wanted him as a Net. But he is inconsistent and not reliable. A week earlier he publicly said he wanted to stay in Brooklyn. Then within a week he requested a trade and blew the whole thing up. And basically ruined the Mavs by losing players and chemistry.

Some people were angry at both Irving and Durant.
“It was incredibly upsetting to watch these guys get traded to strange teams in the middle of a title run.”
Then he should have finished the season with Brooklyn. Both he and kd. It was incredibly upsetting to watch these guys get traded to strange teams in the middle of a title run.

Meanwhile, many Nets fans were relieved that Irving is no longer on the team.
“Glad he’s no longer a Brooklyn Nets issue,” one user said.
Revisionist history from Kyrie.
Glad he’s no longer a Brooklyn Nets issue.

Irving isn’t one to shy away from stating his opinion about anything, including former teams he has played for.
He has left a sour taste in the mouths of many fans and they are going to challenge his comments again and again.
