NBA Analyst Names A Perfect Veteran Fit For The Hawks

By Brandon Marcus May 5, 2022 @JumpBallBrandon

Lou Williams of the Atlanta Hawks is one of the unsung heroes of the NBA.

A three-time Sixth Man of the Year winner, Williams is currently playing in Atlanta, although his output has decreased to 6.3 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.9 assists a game.

However, throughout his 16 years in the league, he has averaged 13.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists a game.

If he really is leaving the NBA, one writer has a suggestion about who should replace him.

If Sweet Lou is hanging it up this summer .. the Atlanta Hawks should sign Carmelo Anthony to be their vet scorer off the bench

37.5% 3P on 5+ attempts per game with the Lakers.

Would fit great with Trae Young.

Ben Stinar says that if Williams is stepping down, the Hawks should try to sign Carmelo Anthony to be their bench scorer.

Stinar’s reasoning is that Anthony averaged 37.5% on his 5+ three-point attempts per game with the Lakers.

Additionally, Stinar says that Anthony will fit very well with Trae Young.

Is this a proposed deal that Hawks fans should be excited about?

Anthony In Atlanta

Anthony certainly did produce some impressive results at times while playing in Los Angeles.

Beyond his three-point percentage, he also added much-need expertise for the young squad.

Obviously, it wasn’t enough because the Lakers didn’t even reach the playoffs but Anthony really was a smart move by LA.

Offensively, he’d probably add a lot to the Hawks.

But he wouldn’t really help them defensively and that’s where they need the most assistance.

The Hawks have been attempting to improve their D all season long with limited results.

Yes, they need good shooters but they need defense more than anything.

In this proposed trade, Atlanta wouldn’t get a boost in that department.

It’s quite obvious that both the Hawks and Lakers need to do something in the offseason.

Neither team was satisfied with how the season ended for them.
