The 2022-23 Los Angeles Lakers aren’t much better than last year’s version.
Their defense has improved under Darvin Ham, but their offense has been dead in the water for the most part.
That’s far from a surprise, as Rob Pelinka didn’t make the moves the team needed to make in the offseason, and he’s reluctant to part ways with their future first-round picks.
LeBron James continues to play at an MVP-caliber level, but that hasn’t translated into much success.
That’s why Nick Wright believes the Lakers have insulted and wasted James’ talents by refusing to upgrade the roster:
“If going into the season, we said, AD was going to be the best he’s been and LeBron was going to look like he did 10 years ago, can we maybe sacrifice the 2029 first [round pick] to get the team better?” Wright asked. “Bonus points, the Warriors are not running away with it, no one’s running away with it, and the teams at the top of the conference have no championship pedigree whatsoever. The Suns are in free fall, the Warriors are mediocre, and the idea that you won’t do it because you’ve decided the new Lakers 6.0 are going to be built through the draft like the Thunder is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard, and it’s an insult to one of the greatest players who’s ever played the game.”

LeBron fan or not, we can all agree that watching James play at this level is impressive, and those numbers shouldn’t go to waste on a team that’s incapable or unwilling to give him any sort of help.
