The 2022 Washington Nationals are very bad at baseball, especially after trading their remaining top assets before the deadline.
With a 48-87 record as of Tuesday morning, they are the worst team in Major League Baseball.
That’s certainly not a distinction any general manager or owner wants to have, let alone a manager.
But it has been that kind of season in the nation’s capital, one that included trading their best player, Juan Soto, because he was getting out of their price range with an extension in mind.
However, there is no denying that they are currently enjoying a nice run.
“Last 3 games for the @Nationals: Beat Mets 7-1; Beat Mets 7-1; Beat Cardinals 6-0. They are the first team in MLB history to have 3 straight games where they won by 6+ runs against a team with 30+ more wins than them,” Stats by STATS tweeted.

The New York Mets and the St. Louis Cardinals, in case you don’t remember, are pacing the NL East and the NL Central divisions, respectively, so they are definitely no slouches.
Washington Has A Long Rebuild Ahead
The Nats managed to beat them in convincing fashion in the last few days.
Don’t mistake the Nats for a good team: they are still 17-24 in the second half.
However, that .415 winning percentage resulting from their play after the All-Star break is better than the .330 one they had in the first half.
For Washington, the priority in the second half has been trying to identify potential contributors for the future and start (or nurture) their development in a competitive environment.
They got a pretty nice haul of players to compete in the future, but they need to correctly guide that talent to MLB and put them in a position to succeed.
