Nathan Eovaldi Has A Rehab Start On The Calendar

The Boston Red Sox‘s rotation has been performing admirably as of late, Thursday’s Josh Winckowski outing notwithstanding.

Michael Wacha, Nick Pivetta, Garrett Whitlock, Rich Hill, Tanner Houck, Nathan Eovaldi, and Winckowski himself have done an amazing job.

Not all of them are currently healthy, though: Chris Sale should rejoin the rotation next week, James Paxton is an option for the second half, and Eovaldi, Hill, and Wacha are currently on the shelf.

There is good news to report on Eovaldi, though.

“Also: The WooSox announce that Nate Eovaldi is expected to start for them on Sunday,” the Boston Globe’s Alex Speier tweeted.

Speier also said that Eovaldi looked very sharp in a recent simulated start, with “two innings, up to 96, good action on the whole mix, changed tempo in game-like fashion.”

Eovaldi Is Close To Returning To MLB

It seems like the talented right-hander is trending towards a return around the All-Star break, probably right around the restart of the season.

On Sunday, Eovaldi is expected to throw around three innings as he continues to work his way back from a lower back issue.

When healthy, he has been one of the Red Sox’s most dependable starters in the past few years.

This season, he has a 3.16 ERA, 72 strikeouts, and a 1.10 WHIP in 12 starts, covering 68.1 innings and earning a 4-2 record.

When the Red Sox’s staff gets fully healthy, it has the potential to be one of the best in the American League, with Sale, Eovaldi, Wacha, Paxton, and Pivetta, with Houck, Brayan Bello, Hill, and Winckowski all potentially available as depth or spot starters.

That’s a pretty solid staff, but they have to reach full health first.

Eovaldi is not far from reaching that point.
