The Golden State Warriors have had a lot of problems this season but, lately, they have had a good amount of success too.
Even without Stephen Curry, the team has won five games in a row.
Their latest victory was perhaps the most special one yet, featuring a whopping 54 points from Klay Thompson.
After Klay Thompson’s 54 points last night
Steph Curry: 30.0 ppg
Jordan Poole: 20.5 ppg
Klay Thompson: 20.3 ppg
Andrew Wiggins: 19.1 ppg— Dalton Johnson (@DaltonJ_Johnson) January 4, 2023
With that impressive showing, Thompson reminded fans of just how powerful he can be.
But he’s not the only one: so far this season, Curry has averaged 30 points a game, Jordan Poole has put up 20.5, Thompson has averaged 20.3, and Andrew Wiggins has put up 19.1.
Those are all very strong showings from the team’s starting players.
Yet, the Warriors are still in a bad way – so what will it take to get them back to the Finals?
The team, currently the 9th in the West, has a 20-18 record, which means that they have a long way to go before they are thought of as championship contenders again.
Even with good stats from the team’s biggest players, they are still having a hard time pushing past the rest of the league.
They are having a particularly tough time with winning on the road, and hold a shockingly bad 3-16 record when they’re not at home.
How can the Warriors have good point totals from multiple stars and still be struggling like this?
Part of the problem is the team’s defense, which has been porous at times, even though they are in the middle of the pack when it comes to defensive ratings in the league.
Losing Curry isn’t helping them at all because he is the most consistent guy on the roster.
The Warriors are scoring well but they are still coming up short and they only have a few more months to turn things around.
