To really succeed in the modern NBA, teams need more than just one All-Star player to lead the way.
We have seen certain squads fail to get far even though they have an athlete who is cleaning up on the court night after night.
To ensure victory, players need someone they can rely on and build a strong relationship with.
Because of this, there are now several big duos in the league who are leading the way.
Most Combined PPG by Duo this season:
59.9 — Luka/Kyrie
56.6 — Tatum/Brown
56.3 — Durant/Booker
55.3 — LeBron/AD pic.twitter.com/XVo2c8U805— Hoop Muse (@HoopMuse) March 2, 2023
Right now, four pairings are battling for the most combined points per game by a duo this year.
Leading the way are Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving of the Dallas Mavericks with an average of 59.9 points.
Behind them are Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics with 56.6.
Then there are Kevin Durant and Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns with 56.3 points and LeBron James and Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers with 55.3.
These numbers prove a few things.
Firstly, Durant and Booker might become one of the best partnerships in the league.
They have only played one game together but they have already shown they are capable of great things.
Meanwhile, Tatum and Brown have silenced all critics who once said the Celtics should break up the backcourt and separate these two via trade.
Of all the pairings, they have been together the longest and have proven the most during their time playing back-to-back.
However, only one pair on this list has won a championship together and that is the one experiencing the most problems right now.
James and Davis were once the most incredible duo in the league but a string of injuries hasn’t allowed them to flourish like they used to.
Which of these combinations will be the next to reach and win the NBA Finals?
