Popularity in MLB can go way beyond a player’s active career.
Some players transcend times and eras, and remain popular and beloved by fans for decades, even after they hang up their spikes.
How one can know if a player is popular?
Just look at the most frequently sold jerseys.
Among active players, the Los Angeles Dodgers‘ Mookie Betts sold the most jerseys, and he actually led the ranking in general.
“Our top 10 best-selling MLB player jerseys: What shocks you the most?” Lids tweeted, with a picture of the ten players who own the most frequently sold uniforms.

Lids sells officially licensed headwear, apparel, and sports memorabilia.
Betts, who turned 30 this month, is a hero in two different cities: Boston and Los Angeles.
Betts Is Among MLB’s Most Popular Players
He played several years for the Red Sox and even helped them win the 2018 World Series with his excellent play.
He won the AL MVP award that year.
He was traded to the Dodgers, and helped them win the 2020 Fall Classic, too.
The guy is a winner, he plays several sports, he is charismatic, and he has lots of fans around the country.
Oh, and he also hit a career-high 35 home runs this year, with 117 runs scored.
It’s shocking that some players who have been retired for years appear on the ranking.
New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter is second, while Seattle Mariners icon Ken Griffey Jr. ranks third.
Jackie Robinson, perhaps baseball’s most iconic player, is fifth, while Roberto Clemente appears in eighth place.
Former Texas Rangers great Nolan Ryan is tenth.
Among active players, Fernando Tatis Jr., Cody Bellinger, Jose Altuve, and Ronald Acuna Jr. are in the top ten.
