Over the past several years, we have seen teams throughout Major League Baseball who either spend money to improve their teams or refuse to do so.
Teams that typically do not spend often take part in a practice that is commonly known as “tanking.”
We have seen several MLB teams adopt this strategy, with the Cincinnati Reds being the most recent example.
Teams who tank generally don’t get much respect, especially among the players.
Tony Clark, the president of the MLBPA, gave his opinion on teams either spending money or choosing not to and made a good point, that spending should be celebrated rather than questioned.

While some teams tend to adopt the tanking strategy, others have been very bold with their money.
Two perfect examples of teams that have been busy spending money are the New York Mets and the San Diego Padres.
While resources aren’t as plentiful with smaller-market teams, the owners still have plenty of money and could afford to make some moves, whether they’re bargain moves or blockbuster signings.
But by spending as much as they have, the Padres and Mets have proven that they want to win and that their goal is to win the World Series.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for certain owners of small-market teams.
Even mid-market teams, such as the St. Louis Cardinals, could stand to spend some more in coming offseasons.
But Clark makes a good point here.
Spending money shows that teams care about winning and should not be questioned, but rather praised.
