The Philadelphia Phillies secured the services of star shortstop Trea Turner for the next 11 years.
The price?
$300 million.

Now, their lineup will have Turner, Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Nick Castellanos, Alec Bohm, J.T. Realmuto, and Rhys Hoskins, among others.
That’s one of the best units in baseball, in case you were wondering.
The Phillies are reuniting Turner with Harper: the two of them shared several seasons together on the Washington Nationals.

Some fans will think it’s a lot to pay for Turner, but it could actually be a good deal for the Phillies according to Alex Fast of Pitcher List.
Re: Trea Turner
Maybe I'm crazy but the 10th highest contract by value and 17th highest contract by AAV seems like…a pretty good get for Philly.

Turner was marvelous in 2022, hitting .298 with 21 homers, 27 stolen bases, 101 runs, and 100 RBI.
He could steal 35 bases if he wanted or needed it, as he remains one of the fastest players in the game.
It Was A Deal The Phillies Needed To Make
Of course, since the Phils will be paying him until he is 40, the “old” jokes were in hot supply on Monday.

People are worried about how much money Turner will make in the final seasons of his deal, but if you account for inflation, this was a pact the Phillies needed to go forward with.
“Trea Turner won’t be worth that contract in 2032” that’s not a real year. you’re arguing about whether monopoly money will keep pace with inflation in narnia, go touch grass

All things considered, the Phillies are a much, much better team with Turner.
For most of the 2022 campaign, they had Bryson Stott as their shorstop.
Stott is a fine major leaguer, but doesn’t have the star-power Turner boasts, and there is really no comparison.
Turner gives the Phillies an ideal leadoff hitter (although he is equally good as a number two or three batter) and a star-caliber shortstop with speed and power.
can't believe bryce harper, kyle schwarber, and trea turner are teammates on the phillies. it's really happening

They are going for it next year, too, and that lineup together with Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler will be hard to stop.
