Los Angeles Angels manager Joe Maddon became the second manager to lose his job in 2022 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Angels decided that a 12-game losing streak was enough evidence to determine Maddon was no longer the right man for the job.
Joe Girardi, fired on June 3 by the Philadelphia Phillies, was the first skipper to be dismissed this year.
Phil Nevin is expected to take over the Angels as the interim manager.
It’s always shocking when a manager who has won the World Series (he did it with the Chicago Cubs in 2016) loses his job because of bad results.
That’s why Twitter was virtually on fire since the news was reported.
“The #Angels have fired Joe Maddon. Phil Nevin is the new manager,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale tweeted, and reactions all over the Internet started to appear.

Some fans say that Maddon is not to blame for the organizational lack of pitching that plagued the Angels for years.
It’s not Joe Maddon’s fault we have no pitching @Angels . I don’t like it and pissed – get us pitching darn it!

However, while that may be true to some extent (the Angels started to seriously covet pitching this season), Maddon also failed to produce a single winning season since he took over as the skipper in Los Angeles.

He seemed well on his way this year, but the wheels fell off in the current, ongoing losing stretch.
Some people are celebrating the Angels’ decision.
“Good move by the Angels. Joe Maddon is *NOT* a good manager. It’s absolutely mind-boggling that he’s earned this reputation as a baseball genius. He did everything he could for the Cubs to lose the World Series in 2016, but they won in spite of him,” Twitter user HOF_Fool wrote.

The baseball universe is in a state of shock after Maddon’s dismissal.
Will the Angels be able to turn their season around with Nevin?
