The St. Louis Cardinals and their loyal fans received good news on Wednesday morning when it was learned that veteran right-hander Adam Wainwright would return for the 2023 season.
With his longtime batterymate Yadier Molina now retired, many questioned whether or not the 41-year-old had pitched his last game.
But Wainwright is set to come back for his 18th season with the Cardinals.
On Twitter, Cardinals fans rejoiced over the news of Wainwright’s return to the team.

Cards Fans Celebrate Waino’s Return
As this fan pointed out, an official contract has not been signed as of now and cannot be signed until after the World Series is over.
Wainwright had yet another successful season in 2022, going 11-12 with a 3.71 ERA in 32 starts.
He’ll enter the 2023 season just five wins shy of 200 for his career.

In all likelihood, 2023 will be Wainwright’s final season.
He is the last holdover from the Cards’ championship runs in 2006 and 2011.
He made his mark when he struck out Carlos Beltran in Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS with his signature curveball, and later struck out Brandon Inge to close out the World Series.

With Wainwright returning for at least one more season, the Cardinals have one less hole to fill in their starting rotation, though they could still potentially target an ace such as Carlos Rodon, Justin Verlander, or Jacob deGrom this offseason.
Wainwright brings great experience to the Cards rotation and an impressive postseason pedigree.
He has also been a very active member of the St. Louis community.
Each year, Wainwright hosts “Big League Impact,” a fantasy football league for charity.
Adam Wainwright is easily one of the best pitchers AND best humans to ever wear the #StLCards jersey. Be happy, fans. This won't prevent anything else from happening.
