The 2022 MLB World Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Houston Astros will start on Friday at Minute Maid Park.
Game 2 will be on Saturday at the same venue, and both teams will use Sunday as a travel day to go to Philadelphia, where Games 3, 4, and 5 will take place (the latter only if necessary).
Sundays are usually great days for baseball, especially at night…when there is no football season.
Since the NFL is already in full swing, however, MLB prefers to avoid a competition and keep the ratings up.
“MLB will intentionally not air World Series games on Sunday this year for the first time since the World Series started being televised in its entirety in 1947. The reason is to avoid competition with the NFL,” Sporting News MLB tweeted.

MLB Is Avoiding World Series Sundays
There will be a little overlap with Monday Night Football, though, as Game 3 in Philadelphia will start at 8:03 p.m. ET.
Games 4 and 5 (if necessary) will also be at Citizens Bank Park, on Tuesday and Wednesday.
If the series isn’t decided by then, the teams will go to Houston on Thursday and play Game 6 on Friday night.
In case a winner-takes-all Game 7 is needed, it won’t get to Sunday: it will be played on Saturday night, also at 8:03 p.m. ET.
Avoiding the Sundays in football season makes sense to guarantee that as many people as possible tune in the Fall Classic.
The Astros are heavily favores to take the series by virtue of their star-studded roster.
The Phillies, however, have shown in the playoffs that they can take down more talented roster with little issue.
It will be an exciting matchup.
