With MLB free agency starting to shape up, some teams are beginning to separate themselves.
Some are making big splashes, inking big-name free agents to large contracts.
However, there are others that are falling behind.
Here is a look at the two teams that will likely find themselves towards the bottom of the league in 2023.
1. Kansas City Royals
It has been a while since the Kansas City Royals competed for the playoffs.
They have routinely been at the bottom of their division, finishing with a lowly record.
While the team does have a crop of young talent, they are still a while off from truly competing.
They will be bolstered by the sophomore campaigns of Bobby Witt Jr. and MJ Melendez, but it will simply not be enough.
With teams like the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians making moves to improve their roster, the Royals continue falling behind.
Expect them to be towards at the bottom of the standings again in 2023.
2. Pittsburgh Pirates
There is no sugarcoating it, the Pittsburgh Pirates have been bad.
They are a long way from competing, and continue to be in 2023.
To make matters worse, outfielder Bryan Reynolds has requested a trade.
Their best player, Reynolds, has proven himself as a consistent 20-plus home run hitter, to go along with standout defense in the outfield.
While he is bound to bring in a major package, they will be losing their one established Major Leaguer.
The team, just by virtue of their numbers top picks, has a lot of talent waiting.

However, they are still multiple years off.
While the future might be bright, the future is far away.
Expect the Pirates to once again be one of baseball’s worst teams.
