Starting pitching is often the foundation of an MLB team by the time the regular season ends, and the postseason begins.
We’re still a long way from October, but that doesn’t mean starting pitching is any less important now than it is then.
On Tuesday, starting pitchers had a lot of good luck, or should we say, they simply just dominated.
Miles Mikolas came close to throwing a no-hitter, Tyler Mahle threw nine scoreless innings, Chris Bassitt went eight shutout innings, and so much more.
Stats By STATS on Twitter made a list of starting pitchers who went at least five innings on Tuesday and did not allow an earned run.
There were 12 different pitchers on that list.
12 different MLB starters threw 5.0+ innings without allowing an earned run today:
Bassitt
Cease
Cole
Davies
Dunning
Gilbert
Gonsolin
Kluber
Liberatore
Mahle
Mikolas
WebbThat's the most such starts on any single day in the live-ball era (since 1920).

Dominant Starts Aplenty
This is unbelievable.
Yesterday, we saw the most starts of at least five innings and no earned runs in the live-ball era, which began in 1920.
These pitchers were simply locked in yesterday and put on a show for all baseball fans to see.
We all love a good pitching performance or two.
But 12?
My goodness, what a day for starting pitchers.
When you have that many starting pitchers dominate in one single calendar day, that shows what these guys are made of.
At the same time, it’s also unheard of for this many guys to have had such amazing games on the mound.
Yesterday was, simply put, the day of the starting pitcher.
This is something you don’t see every day and may be something we never will see again.
It’s just amazing to see how many guys went out there and delivered such dominant starts on the mound.
That was certainly fun to see.
