Earlier today, it was announced that Hall of Fame shortstop Derek Jeter would be leaving his position as CEO of the Miami Marlins.
Following Jeter’s announcement, several players around Major-League Baseball took to social media to support the Hall of Famer for his decision to walk away from the Marlins organization.

Players Support Derek Jeter Over His Decision
On his Instagram story, Francisco Lindor posted the hashtag #Re2pect that became popular during Jeter’s final season in the MLB.
Jason Castro took to Twitter and posted the same hashtag along with #TheCaptain and #CompetitiveIntegrity.
Miguel Rojas, a utility infielder for the Marlins, talked about Jeter’s integrity and professionalism.
“Derek was a great mentor to me and helped me to be a leader,” Rojas said.
“This is what leaders do.”
Minnesota Twins’ catcher Mitch Garver also showed support for the Hall of Famer on Twitter.

It’s good to see the players supporting Jeter for his decision.
Jeter is a winner and is used to competing.
He wasn’t getting that with the Marlins, who made the postseason just once while Jeter was in charge.
Miami finished in fourth place in the NL East in 2021 with a 67-95 record and missed the postseason.
Why He Left Miami
Jeter cited a difference in his vision of the Marlins organization going forward with the team’s ownership as the reason for his departure.
The Marlins had plans to become a contending team in the future, but those plans have yet to come to fruition.
The team did acquire catcher Jacob Stallings from the Pirates prior to the lockout.
However, that has been the Marlins’ only major move thus far, and they are still quite far away from becoming a contending team.
