MLB is making an effort to draw more attention to the draft.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, MLB has announced that there will be a 20-round draft which will take place from July 17-19 in Los Angeles during All-Star week.
Nightengale also reports that a draft combine will take place at Petco Park in San Diego from June 14-20.
A draft combine is a showcase of the young prospects who are set to be drafted.
This is the first time that MLB will feature a draft combine, where top high school and college prospects will participate in a series of medical and performance assessments.

An Effort To Draw Fans Back
A combine always takes place before the NBA and NFL drafts, and this will be baseball’s inaugural draft combine.
And this could be a good way to get more people invested in the MLB draft and the game of baseball as a whole.
There needs to be more excitement surrounding the game, especially with something such as the draft.
There needs to be a reason for fans to get excited about the top high school and college baseball prospects, like there always is with the basketball and football prospects.
More people will get invested in it this way.
Also, having it in a big market city such as San Diego helps too.
The draft is another matter and that obviously will occur during All-Star week, which may get fans a little more excited about the All-Star Game and the festivities that come with it such as the Home Run Derby and the Futures Game.
Having that in Los Angeles should generate a decent sized crowd.
