The Chicago White Sox found themselves with a managerial opening at the end of the 2022 season after Tony La Russa announced he would not be returning in 2023 as a result of some lingering health issues.
After winning 93 games under La Russa in 2021, 2022 did not go according to plan for the South Siders as they fell short of the postseason and finished at .500.
But this morning, it was announced that the White Sox had hired Kansas City Royals bench coach Pedro Grifol to become their new manager.
As it turns out, Grifol blew the White Sox front office away during his interview and was always the leading candidate.
Pedro Grifol blew away the #Whitesox during his interview and was the consensus choice among Jerry Reinsdorf, Ken Williams and Rick Hahn.

White Sox Agree To Hire Grifol As Manager
It seems as if the choice was clear for the White Sox.
Grifol, 52, has been in the Royals’ organization for 10 years and now finally gets his chance to manage a big-league club.
The White Sox appeared to have been very impressed by his interview, with everybody in the front office agreeing on the consensus that he was the best option to manage the team going forward.
Grifol also has some winning experience that the White Sox were clearly drawn to.
He was with the Royals when they won back-to-back American League Pennants and won a World Series title back in 2015.
So, he has a championship under his belt already, which was something that the White Sox front office was clearly impressed by.
They were looking for somebody with winning experience.
And so, they have chosen to go with Grifol as their new manager.
