The Pittsburgh Pirates are probably licking their chops after watching Jose Quintana dominate the New York Yankees on Tuesday night.

The left-handed pitcher, signed to a one-year deal before the season by the Bucs in an attempt to resurrect his career, held the Yanks to just one run in five innings, striking out seven hitters in the process.

You probably don’t need us to tell you that the Yankees’ lineup is among the best in the game, making Quintana’s effort all the more impressive.

After last night’s outing, Quintana’s ERA stands at 3.33 in 81 innings: he has been one of a few bright spots for the Pirates, and they intend to cash in on the southpaw by netting themselves one or two quality prospects.

The 33-year-old lefty probably isn’t seen as a building block in Pittsburgh, so they are more than open to dealing him.

Quintana’s Market Is Heating Up

According to MLB insider Jon Morosi, his trade market may be heating up.

“#Pirates LHP José Quintana is among the most popular pitchers on the trade market right now, sources say, especially after last night’s win over the #Yankees. The #BlueJays are one possible landing spot due to Kikuchi’s struggles and Ryu’s injury,” Morosi tweeted.

Quintana was a legitimate star between 2012 and 2016, when he was with the Chicago White Sox.

He was traded to the Chicago Cubs in 2017 in one of the most famous transactions between the two crosstown rivals, and his career went south.

From 2017 to 2021, he finished every year with an ERA higher than 4.00, culminating in an ugly 6.43 showing last year.

But the Pirates gave him a low-pressure platform to resurrect his career, and now, he will likely continue his career elsewhere after July ends.
