The starting rotation is set for Team USA.
St. Louis Cardinals right-hander and team legend Adam Wainwright will draw the start in Game 1 on Saturday night against Great Britain as the Americans finally get a chance to begin their title defense.
Team USA won the Classic in 2017 and is looking for a repeat performance this time around.
Also in the rotation for Team USA are MLB stars Nick Martinez, Lance Lynn, Miles Mikolas, Brady Singer, Merrill Kelly, and Kyle Freeland.
On Twitter, Bob Nightengale of USA Today revealed what the pitching plans for Team USA are for the first four games of the Classic.
No official announcement yet but the probable starting rotation for Team USA for the first round games of the WBC:
Saturday: Adam Wainwright vs Great Britain
Sunday: Nick Martinez vs. Mexico
Monday: Lance Lynn vs Canada
Wednesday: Miles Mikolas vs. Colombia— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) March 7, 2023
Starting Game 2 will be Martinez.
The San Diego Padres veteran swingman will pitch against Team Mexico on Sunday night.
On Monday, Lynn will take the mound for the Americans.
The Chicago White Sox veteran starter will go up against the Canadian National Team.
There will be an off day on Tuesday, but things will pick right back up on Wednesday.
The Americans will face off against Colombia and will start Mikolas, who is a teammate of Wainwright’s with the Cardinals.
Wainwright and Mikolas are joined by teammates Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado on the Team USA roster.
Singer, Freeland, and Kelly are not scheduled to start in either of the first four games, but could potentially be available in relief or even start in the next round should Team USA make it out of the first round.
The Classic is underway, and the excitement can be felt all around the game.
