MLB pitcher Trevor Bauer, who plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers, will be out of action for a while.
He was involved in a sexual assault case last year, and while the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office announced in early February that it would not seek charges against him because of a lack of evidence, MLB kept its investigation open.
In fact, he had been repeatedly placed in administrative leave since the case went public last year.
Finally, the league announced their discipline on Bauer: it has suspended him for two years for violating its domestic violence policy.
MLB has the right to suspend a player even if there is no legal conviction, and that was clearly the case with Bauer.
“MLB has suspended Trevor Bauer for two years – 324 games,” MLB insider Ken Rosenthal tweeted on Friday afternoon.

The Games Missed While He Was On Administrative Leave Don’t Count For The Suspension
The suspension kicks in today: the games he missed while on administrative leave do not count.
ESPN insider Jeff Passan explains the situation.
“Whereas with settlements players have been credited days served for a suspension while on administrative leave, that is not the case with Bauer. His two-year suspension, which covers 324 games, starts today and would last for all of 2022, 2023 and into the 2024 season,” he tweeted.

The pitcher said he will definitely appeal the suspension.
He may seek a reduction of it.
The pitcher hasn’t played in an MLB game since last June.
In the strongest possible terms, I deny committing any violation of the league’s domestic violence & sexual assault policy. I am appealing this action and expect to prevail. As we have throughout this process, my representatives & I respect the confidentiality of the proceedings.

He was having a great start of his Dodgers tenure, with a 2.59 ERA in 107 innings.
It appears it will be a while before he steps on an MLB mound again, unless something drastic happens with his appeal.
