The MLB world includes much more than just players, managers, and coaches.
You have scouts, player development staff, data analysts, fans, and agents.
Agents manage players’ careers, and often look for new contracts and opportunities for them, in exchange for a fixed fee (usually a percentage of the player’s contract, paid by the team).
They are so important in the game that some of them have even achieved fame of their own: Scott Boras, Casey Close, and Rachel Luba are a few cases.
Some agencies are very renowned, too: Octagon, Wasserman, Excel Sports Management, Jet Sports Management, and many more.
An Important Transaction In The Agent Industry
Speaking of Jet Sports and Wasserman, they were involved in an important transaction that may impact the game.
“Huge news in baseball agency world: Wasserman bought Jet Sports, turning one of the most prominent shops into a powerhouse. Wasserman already had Arenado, Stanton, Darvish, Berrios, Baez, Glasnow. With Jet in the fold, they’ll represent Buxton, Sale, Wheeler, Olson, Gilbert, Lux,” ESPN reporter Jeff Passan tweeted.

It appears Wasserman has the intention of monopolizing the agent market in MLB, or at least dramatically increasing their client portfolio.
With the transaction, they now represent some of the very best players in baseball: some of the new faces are Minnesota Twins star Byron Buxton, Boston Red Sox ace Chris Sale, Philadelphia Phillies’ Zack Wheeler, Atlanta Braves’ Matt Olson, Seattle Mariners’ Logan Gilbert, and Los Angeles Dodgers’ Gavin Lux, among many others.
Wasserman appears to be betting on MLB’s increasing competitive balance tax (CBT), as teams will likely start spending more and more in each passing year for the duration of the current CBA.
